I started in contract furniture, and it’s an industry I’ve never really left.

Eve Fitzhenry, founder of EF Consulting. Fractional marketing director, strategist and UK go-to-market lead for interiors, flooring, furniture, lighting and design-led manufacturers.

Book a conversation with me

Hello. I work with ambitious businesses at key moments of change, helping them gain clarity, define direction and drive growth. With over twenty years in brand and marketing strategy, I bring an external, objective lens that challenges assumptions and aligns business ambitions with brand purpose.

Over the past twenty years I’ve worked across brand strategy and marketing leadership for some of the best known names in UK contract furniture and flooring. I understand how this industry actually works: the dealer relationships, the specification process with architects and designers, and the long lead times that come with project-based business.

EF Consulting is how I do that work now: embedded at senior level inside businesses that are strong but whose marketing is still to catch up, as the marketing director they need without the full-time appointment.

Why this industry

I love design-led products, and I love the marketing that does them justice. It starts with the product itself: how a floor is engineered, how a chair is made, why one finish sells and another doesn’t. What holds my attention is the whole journey, from the design studio and the factory floor to the showroom, the specifier’s sample library and the moment someone chooses it.

Marketing, in this industry, is the work of creating demand for something that deserves it: understanding the product, its value, the people who specify or sell it, and what they need to hear. Beautiful products deserve brilliant marketing. That is the whole job.

Twenty years inside the industry

Chronologically, my career has spanned contract furniture, premium interiors and commercial flooring, combining brand strategy, team leadership and market expansion across some of the UK’s best known names in the sector.

What twenty years inside the industry does to how you think

Budgets are real
I’ve built and defended marketing budgets inside manufacturers. A budget that doesn’t match the ambition fails; so does ambition that ignores the budget. Underfunding a strategy and then measuring it against full-scale expectations is one of the most common reasons marketing investment fails to deliver.
The buying cycle is long
A floor or a chair gets specified months, sometimes years, before it’s bought. Marketing that only measures this quarter will stop too early. Give campaigns time to breathe, and measure the pipeline, not the week.
Dealers and specifiers decide
Architects and designers decide what gets bought; dealers and distributors decide what gets stocked. Neither buys from you directly. Most of the marketing that matters in this industry is aimed at people who never place the order.
Marketing serves the sales team
The people on the road hear the market every day. Marketing’s job is to open doors for them and give them something worth saying when they walk through.
Awareness is not demand
Impressions are cheap. A retailer enquiring because a designer asked for your product is demand. Measure what actually matters: lead quality, conversion, pipeline value.
Position, message, execute, in that order
Skip the foundations and you pay twice. Positioning first, messaging second, then the activity, so every channel sounds like the same company.

How I work with people

I embed myself at senior level within businesses, working as a trusted external partner to provide the marketing direction, strategic clarity and hands-on execution that drives real growth. Not an agency or a generalist, but a senior marketer who becomes part of your team.

In practice that means I work alongside you and your sales team as your senior point of contact, typically a few days a month. An industry-experienced account manager keeps day-to-day delivery on track and admin support handles the detail behind the scenes, so you brief and approve rather than chase and correct. Specialists, yours or mine, do what specialists do. It is a small team, deliberately.

What the people I’ve worked with say

“Eve is like having sunshine in your team. Her relentless passion to do the right thing for the brand and the business is testament to her marketing leadership. Whether you need thought leadership in brand and marketing strategy or some impactful marketing tactics at pace, Eve is your partner.”

Toni Wood, Chief Commercial Officer, Headlam

“Eve works exceptionally well with the team and is a partner to the leaders and a guiding hand for the wider team.”
