How the site is built
- Every page has one main heading and a logical heading order, landmarks for navigation, main content and footer, and a “Skip to content” link as the first thing on the page.
- Everything works from the keyboard. The Menu opens as a dialog, keeps focus inside it, closes with Escape and returns focus to the button that opened it.
- Focus is always visible: a two-pixel outline in sage on light backgrounds and in chalk on navy.
- Text and background colours meet the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast ratio; the brand’s sage green is never used for small text on light backgrounds.
- Text sizes are set in relative units and scale with your browser settings; layouts reflow down to a 320-pixel-wide viewport without sideways scrolling.
- Buttons and links are at least 44 pixels tall on touch screens.
- Photographs carry descriptions; purely decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Forms label every field, mark optional ones, explain errors in words next to the field and move focus to the first problem.
- Animation is minimal and respects the “reduce motion” setting of your device.
- Pages are server-rendered HTML; reading them needs no JavaScript.
What has been tested
During the build the site was checked with automated accessibility tooling and by keyboard at phone and desktop sizes. Testing with screen readers across browsers is scheduled before launch, and this statement will then say what was found. Automated checks cannot establish conformance on their own, so no conformance level is claimed here yet.
Known limitations
- The booking calendar is provided by Microsoft Bookings on Microsoft’s site; its accessibility is Microsoft’s responsibility. If it does not work for you, email or call Eve instead and she will find a time by hand.
- Some photographs in the journal are casual phone pictures; their descriptions are written to carry the meaning, not every detail.
